I just spent Thursday and Friday at a fantastic class on Engine Turning, taught by Brittany Nicole Cox (see http://www.mechanicalcurios.com and David Lindor (see http://www.lindormachineworks.com. Engine Turning is a type of engraving process using hand driven machinery, either a Rose Engine or a Straight Line Engine. In this video I am using the pumping action of the Rose Engine to engrave the surface of flute bands. I am working on an attachment to my primary lathe to be able to do this type of artwork in-house, and make this a standard feature on my more expensive flutes.
