Eb recordings

I was just wondering if there was a list of Eb recordings somewhere. If
not, could we start one? This would be to play along with your Eb flute.
No, I haven’t got one, but.. I know some people do!

John Creaven’s Record “The Story so Far” is mostly in Eb. Nice tunes as well.

I’ve been playing mostly in Eb lately as I’ve been learning all the tunes off the Gort - Galway Session with Kevin Crawford (underground recording)… The whole session is in Eb.

I know you probably meant recordings online but these would be great to get your hands on.

I think a number of the tunes on Molloy’s “Black Album” are in Eb; i haven’t listened to it in a while, though . . .

Any hints on how to obtain the “underground” recordings you speak of, Blayne? Or do you just gotta “know someone”?

you know… I’m not really sure… if anyone here knows Kevin and can ask permission, I could post the session online… Anyone?

Yeah, if it’s possible for it to be “released” I’d love to hear it. I do believe that MM’s “Black” album is all Eb. The Molloy/Peoples/brady album is as well. I’m not sure if Tom McElvogue’s CD is finally out, but that’ll have some Eb tracks.

Kevin Crawford’s “In Good Company” has a few Eb tracks on it IIRC
June Ni Chormaic (w/ Michael Rooney) “Draiocht” has some very tasty
Eb tracks
Probably any Dervish album will have plenty..

There’s also Maeve Donnelly and Peadar O’Loughlin’s “The Thing Itself” - great music, all in Eb..

Eoghan Mac Aogain’s two cds, ‘le fonn’ and ‘The Clare hills’ have a lot of Eb tunes on them, with the D flute tunes being the exception.

He’s a good listen, too. I especially like ‘le fonn’, but I’m glad I have both! He plays a majority of airs on both, and has a lovely tone on his flute. He also plays a high Eb whistle on some cuts too.

Now you see what you’ve done? I sold my Eb low whistle, and now I want to play along, so an Eb flute would be good, wouldn’t it? Where’s that ad for the Paddy Ward? No, can’t do it right now, oh well! Too bad, I hear they are killer in Eb, like my Cillian O Briain whistle was! Another time, I guess.

You can order Eoghan’s cd’s from his website, I’ll try to find that link and post it here. OK, here’s the link:

He’s got some sound samples there too. Enjoy. Right now, I’m stuck on track #12 on ‘le fonn’, it’s called “Slan go deo”, an air by Eoghain. Sad, but lovely. I can’t get enough of tunes like that, and sparsley recorded, flute and acoustic guitar. Way to go, Eoghan! Thank you!

Do I recall that Dervish tune up a semitone … thus making a bunch of their D tunes suitable for Eb?

(not as hard-core as the stuff you guys are into, but nonetheless rollicking)

Harry Bradley has also recorded some things in Eb (see Busted Flute thread). I believe I tried to cadge an Eb Murray off him once, shameless Murray-ho that I am

The majority of Marcas Ó Murchú’s “Ó Bhéal go Béal” is in Eb.

This is great! Keep going!

The majority of Jean-Michel Veillon’s “E Koad Nizan” is played on an E-flat Lehart, I believe.

This would be amazing…anyone know Kevin and can ask him? Phil Hardy maybe? Kevin Krell or the one and only Dale?
