I’ve been a fan of early American roots music for years and, go figure, it has only just occurred to me that there might be a whole world of Irish recordings from the 20s, 30s, and 40s floating around. I’ve heard the name Michael Coleman. Do you have any other recommendations? I’d love to get some CD recommendations too.
ah, poor Michael!

I don’t suppose ya know of Rich ![]()
Loads of 78 rpms on sites like Juneberry and archive.com.
See this thread for links to fluteplayers and similar (unstuck) thread in the pipes forum
The Smithsonian/Folkways site has a lot of field recordings, for sale but with preview. The British library is a treasure trove as well.
The archives I work for recently just put up a collection website that has 32 cylinder recordings made between 1902 and 1914 of Francis O’Neill’s contemporaries and sources: Patsy Touhey (pipes), James Early (pipes), Barney Delaney (pipes), John McFadden (fiddle), and Edward Cronin (fiddle).
All the tunes are available streaming online for free, just go to the “Music” link: http://archives.irishfest.com/dunn-family-collection.htm
Enjoy!
