We’re into the last day of the auction and no bidders, so I’ve dropped the opening price $250 down to $4750 and the BuyItNow price to $5000.
After this, no more eBay and I’m upping the price to $6000… ![]()

If you can’t sell the pipes on ebay you could place your B set on the NPU web page http://www.pipers.ie/en/ads.lasso if you are a paid member as is free for the NPU Classified Ads and in the newsletter an piobaire.
I am a member of NPU or another NPU member on this forum could place ad for you with contact details that if you are not a NPU member.
All the best
Actually, Michael, you may not have a bad idea there. (I’m talking about upping the price later) I generally won’t take any cars to the auction this time of year because nobody’s buying and you can’t get market value for anything. Even other dealers hold off 'till after the first. It will be a whole different marketplace at that time. Based on what used cars will bring now at auction, all my cars will appreciate a little after the first of the year because there will be more buyers looking for cars and therefore more people fighting over them. I know that cars and Pipes are very different but I do believe that a similar dynamic is at stake with regard to what I’m saying. That B set is a nice big-ticket item.
Good luck,
Paul
[edited to clarify]
One never knows on eBAY. Items that might not have any lookers the first week sometimes get 6 bidders the next week.
Thanks for the market insight, Paul. I intend to auction off my Chapman Stick to help pay for my C set, and I’ve been wondering if it is best to put it up before or after the holidays.
Thanks for all the excellent suggestions…
I’ve been playing the set the past week or so nearly every day, starting to think maybe I can come up with $5K some other way to pay for the new C set… Its a fun enough set to play even if I can’t get around on it as well as I’d like… Just upped my homeowners insurance rider so at least it’s insured.
We’ll see how it goes… if someone wants to buy it, I’ll sell it. If I have to keep it, then that’s OK too.
Embarassingly, I’m not an NPU member. (I know, I know…) Perhaps someone could list it for me…

Jim’s right… eBay is a fickle audience. Recently I sold a really clean amplifier for less than it’s average worth. Two weeks later, another one in poor condition sold for more than mine.
Chadd… Chapman stick? way-cool instrument. Are they hard to play??
Michael… next go 'round try a really low starting price… like $9.99 and a high reserve. You could easily start a ‘feeding frenzy’ and get your original asking price.
B sets take longer to sell since they are mostly a 2nd instrument for pipers. D pipes are bought by almost everybody - pipers as well as neophytes.
…I would love to have a Chapman stick again. I had one VERY briefly, and sold it for $800. Wish I had one again, but have to pay for a set I have coming.
Insurance. My insurer will not cover my pipes because I play in bars. Is there a company that will? This is probably a good topic in itself.
I am really surprised your set hasn’t sold, Michael. It will. I will tell my club about it.

Tommy, follow this previous discussion about insurance. I think it’s what you’re looking for:

I can post your B set on the NPU Classified Ads page . Do you want to use the same details that you gave on ebay. I will need contact details like email address.
You can send me a pm or email if you like.

They’re fairly easy to play. If your’e coming from a guitar background, the trickiest part is getting accustomed to the left hand strings being low in pitch toward your wrist and getting higher in pitch toward your fingertips, which is the opposite of a guitar, bass, mandolin, etc. It makes for symmetry between the two hands, but is strange at first.
