Anyone has tried a dixon alloy High Bb? I’d like to know if that key is lower or higher than C high (lower I guess)… what about the piccolo head, is there anyway of buying separately from the whistle? I suppose that the alloy sound is weaker than brass, isn’t it? I’m looking for a quiet sound… I need you whistlers!
I tried to contact with Tony Dixon but I have no reply.. someone knows how to contact him? Thanx in advance.
I have a Dixon Alloy Bb (ABS head, Aluminum body, & Brass tuning slide). I also have the Alloy C & D. The Bb is lower than the C, has a soft smooth tone and is quite nice is all respects. I don’t believe he is making a flute head for the brass tuning slide whistles yet. The only place I was able to find it in the U.S. was Hobgoblin. They are in the U.S. and UK, but I’m sure other sources might have them by now.
The brass is a softer sound than the alloy IMHO and certainly a lot heavier weight wise. I have a brass C and alloy D that provide that comparison. I spoke to Tony Dixon (name dropping ) on Friday, who said that he had been asked for Bb brass, but thought it would be too heavy (I agree), but is now working on a session D (which I for one will snap up as I find all the high whistles a littie quiet for sessions). I’v just ordered an alto tuneable flute and with some advice from Tony, should be able to use my F whistle head to make a low D whistle. I contacted him from his number on.
Great! I suggested him to make a Session Dixon a few months ago… they’re very nice whistles, I love the tone and resposiveness. I hope he’ll make the D hole a bit bigger to have a loder belltone.
