I love it! It’s quiet and somewhat pure, but still retains some chiffy sound as well. I’d recommend it for anyone who wants the decibel level of their whistling not to lead to divorce proceedings, killing ears of the local pets, and/or hacking off the neighbors in an apartment complex (I’m fortunate enough to have a house). It’s pretty well in tune, and of course this one is tunable. But mostly I love the sound of it. For the record, I have a D nontunable that I love, had an A that I sent back, but decided to try the Bb. Hopefully the A was just a fluke, because when they’re good, they’re awesome. For the money, you can’t beat them. I think Dixons may be perfect also for those who are in the mid/Susato budget range but dislike Susatos because of their volume, their sound, or for whatever reason. (I like them too, they’re just different) Anyone else love their Dixon Bb?
I like my Dixon Bb but I LOVE my A. I’m suprised you didn’t like the one you got. I really can’t say exactly why I always reach for the A rather than the Bb but I do. Actually, I only got the Bb to play with GHBs. And that’s pretty much the only time I use it. ![]()
I agree that the Dixon whistles are great. I really have been pleased with mine- A,Bb, Low D.
Yes CJ, I’m a Dixon fan too…have a Sop D w/brass slide, C, Bb, A, and a Low D. All great values, what I’d consider the ideal practice whistle!
Quiet, sweet sound (great 2nd octave) good intonation. Love those Dixons!

Sorry, but I am going to be giving my Dixon Bb away.

I have a Dixon Bflat and an A and like both but do prefer the A as I play more A tunes. I also have a Generation Bflat which is flat as a pancake and I can’t tweak it and it sounds awful.
