If anyone owns a Dixon Bb, please post a mini-review.
Nice, slightly breathy tone, easy to play across 2+ octaves, moderate volume. Easy reach for the holes.
It’s not one of those with a very pure clean sound, neither is it extremely chiffy. Somewhere in the middle. I suppose it could sound a bit flutey. Sounds good when improvising over jazzy bossa-type tunes (pretend it’s a flute). I think it’s pretty ok on Irish/trad stuff, though pls note that I don’t play much of that.
I also have a Gen nickel Bb whose mouthpc was just not satisfactory despite tweaking.
Air requirements of the Dixon are much less than for the Gen Bb.
I now use a Sweetone C mouthpc on my Gen, but the hybrid has that recognisable Sweetone whistle sound, which I don’t like when I’m playing slow stuff.
So I find that I keep going back to the Dixon.
COnclusion: I like it a lot. For its price, it’s extremely good value, and reliable.
