Had to wait an extra day due to the bank holiday but that gave me time to get more used to my SYN D/C which came last week.
First impressions of the Dixon…looks fantastic, the brass and the Dixon head go so well together. It’s heavy, but not uncomfortably so and the body weighs much more that the head section…BUT…it is not difficult to hold or play…it is a very substantial whistle and a joy to handle. I’m not qualified to give an in depth review after just 6 months as a whistler so it really is just ‘opinion’. Volume is good…it does have plenty of poke if you give it some proverbial ‘wellie’ but I found it a delight to play more quietly..not that it is the quietest whistle I’ve got. It has, particularly when played more gently a well rounded tone and one can slip easily, but not mistakenly, into the secon octave which, if played sweetly…if you know wehat I mean is a bit bell like and I think rather nice. The whistle is in tune throughout the two octaves and one does not need to blast out the top A and B to get there…focus is , of course called for.It did take me a bit of time to get used to it as it feels quite different to my other whistles and once or twice I got the squeeks because I failed to cover the holes properly…the overall sound is good and well rounded. It does seem to me to be a work of art and will rapidly become one of my favourite whistles…it’s nice just to sit and look at it and feel it…the brass tuning slide is well done. As I say…not in any sense a review, just my opinion and impression of a whistle I already like very much. Les.
Wow, lucky Les!
I saw the brass body Dixon on Bigwhistle.co.uk… but I can’t afford one at the moment. The aluminium bodied version is one of my favourite whistles.
Has anyone else tried the brass bodied Dixon like Les’s new one?
Lucky indeed.
I popped off an email to Tony last night roasting him for not informing his #1 fan about this new version.
In his reply, he informed me that there is also going to be a Low D version of the aluminum body whistle. Now that should be a whistle to try!
Mike
Would this be the low D he is talking about…

Congrats. Can’t wait to try one out myself.
Holy Cow! That whistle is a beauty!
I’m waiting for a reply on how much it will cost with shipping to the US.
Willie, do you have that whistle or is a photo from the net?
If you have one, would you care to tell us your impressions?
Mike

Hi Mike,I dont have one,but it does look good,it’s available from
www.bigwhistle.co.uk
Fine people to do business with.
Oh my god…
I just looked at Hobgoblin.co.uk… The aluminium or alloy/ABS high Dixon whistles are available in:
Bb, C, D (got that one), E and Eb
And I have a birthday coming up…
I have had good experiences with my Dixon (all ABS) but it just has too low a breath requirment so it is hard for me to play. I prefer my Alba.
i have the sapronoD aluminum body, it plays like a dream.
