Premier Irish folk group, Dervish, will appear at Nashville’s Station Inn on Wednesday, October 6 @ 9 PM. We’d love to have you as our guest at the show. This is a rare opportunity to see one of the hottest traditional Irish bands making music. Please let us know if you can attend.
Dervish matches a vigorous, intense performance style with a thorough understanding of both the musical and social elements of traditional Irish music. And this spell-binding band is one of the foremost Celtic folk bands on today’s scene. As documented on one of their most recent US releases Live in Palma, Dervish delivers a dynamic, moving concert drawing from a number of Irish instrumental, vocal, and dance music traditions.
Beginning life as a loose aggregate of local musicians from Northwestern Ireland in 1989, Dervish has grown into one of the most acclaimed folk bands
in their native country, winning Hot Press’s Album of the Year Award and Irish Music Magazine’s prestigious Best Overall Trad/Folk Band of the
Year.

I hope glands won’t mind, but I’d like to mention that Dervish is also playing at the University of Miami this Satuday, Oct 2. Perhaps Messrs. O’Kaine & Kelly will be lurking about, too. The ticket prices: $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $10 for students. Tony, are you going to be there?
The University is also hosting the first presidential debate this Thursday, September 30. Tickets weren’t available to the general public, but it might be fun just to stop by the campus and take in the carnaval atmosphere. Does anyone tailgate/barbecue at political events? It’s not the Orange Bowl, but it’s close enough.
Can ye boys in Florida handle another whirling “dervish?” I find the weather phenomena in the carribean unbelievable this year. Wishing you all the best.
If you can make it to a Dervish concert, you won’t regret it. They have deep magic about them, and they play their hearts out. If you can manage it, go !
FYI - Saw Dervish in Boston last night. Fine show. Liam Kelly is not with the band. A fine flute-whistle player Ivan _____________? from Dublin is filling in.

Thanks for the pronunciation. I was pretty sure it wasn’t Garth and he didn’t look Goth. I’m always amazed at how professionals can play so, I guess, “professionally”. It was only when Cathy Jordan was introducing the band at the end of the night that I realized he wasn’t their regular flute/whistle player. She said he’d joined them 4 days earlier!! 4 days! 2+ hour show, no problems.
Hey Sean, good to see you perusing the board. For those of you who don’t know Sean he plays the flute and whistle like he was born with them. He has pipes that don’t work and I imagine that he’d play them spectacularly if they did. Lewis
The concert was tremendous. I’ve heard Dervish twice before and this was clearly their best performance. They were so electrifying and the whole place was into the music. I usually don’t care for stringed instruments in Irish music but the combo of octave mandolin, guitar, and bouzouki was rather captivating and so well done in ensemble that it seemed natural and was surely pleasing to the ear and interesting enough to enjoy. Kudos to the lads for their arrangements. It was probably the most enjoyable live I-trad concert I’ve attended. Ivan Goff was stellar, relaxed, and melded with the group so well that one would have thought he was a long term regular member. His musicianship was particularly evident with regards to his tasteful ensemble playing, focal point riffs, and his work on slow airs on the flute. He started the encore with a solo air on pipes. The house was packed with some of the worlds greatest musicians, some of them who reside in Nashville (Allison Brown) and also numerous guests including piper and guitarist Jordan McConnell and his most excellent band from Winnipeg, guitarist John Doyle, piper Skip Cleavinger, and numerous other world class session musicians, etc… Music City USA is an amazing place. Ya’ll come see for yourselves! Of course, Sligo, or what we now refer to as “far east Nashville,” is an interesting place, too! The best session I ever participated in was in Furey’s Sheelagh na Gig in Sligo…the pub owned and operated by Brian McDonough of Dervish and his wife. Great sessions and concerts…put it on your itinerary next time in Sligo.
