Just came back from the North Hero Piper’s Gathering.
Had never seen or played whistles made by David Boisvert. He brought 7 or 8 examples with him, several were for sale. I played them all. Most sold in a matter of hours.
Absolutely phenominal. Amazing upper octave. Sweet lower octave. Reminded me of a Thin Weazel. Smooth tuning slide.
At this point he makes them mainly in soprano d, though he will consider orders in other keys. I cannot vouch for what his other key- whistles would sound like. but the High D was awesome.
Wood, tunable, available in a variety of woods, with a variety of metal finishes.
ON THE TOPIC OF THE NORTH HERO GATHERING IN GENERAL:
There were several informal sessions at which whistle participation was welcome. There was also an afternoon workshop entitled “An informal gathering for whistle enthusiasts”. It was well attended and lots of fun.

Apparently he is mainly a UP maker. I know nothing about his UPs or how they are viewed in the UP world. His web site is found under Greenwood Instruments on the browsers, or under his unusual last name.
Based on the sound and feel i would have bought one on the spot. I did not because i do not need another wooden instrument to take care of (recently started on pipes). But if you are considering a wooden whistle, these are a good option. apparently they start at about 125.
