I have one of these…I think it’s probably the loudest whistle made. The volume is comparable to a clarinet with a stiff reed, but the octaves are nicely balanced. It does take a great deal of air.
I don’t think Michael Cronnolly makes these very often anymore, this is a good chance if anyone is wanting one.
That price is pretty good, I think they are $100 new. Of course, I got other priorites other wise I might have to get it, it would do great in my huge, did I mention it was huge, session. We once had 30+ musicians.
As highly as I think of my M&E flute (please note, I’m not a flute player and the M&E is as forgiving as one could hope for) the Cronnoly whistle was the first ‘high end’ whistle I ever said ‘no’ to.
To say that it takes air is a bit of an understatement. Michael said he intended it for people who were headed for a flute eventually so they got used to the air requirements.
