Well I finished a one key flute, that is a start… Loads of fun making it! The key was “cold forged” i.e. hammering away at the anvill!
The next keyed flute on the way is a 4 key. Working my way up to 8 keys…

If it is possible, I would be interested in a photo of the key, inside and out, off of the flute.
I don’t quite understand the placement of the key, it looks like an Eb key, but it still has the C and C# holes.
It better not be mine. I specifically asked for NO keys. But soon, joint by joint, you might get this one fully keyed up. BTW, how are you springing this? Traditional leaf, or coils like Hammy uses?

Yep, Eb, difficult to half-hole. I prefer the long foot, with the vent holes (OK, they’re C# & C if keyed closed), myself.

So is the flute fully chromatic now? 
No keys for Kevin, this is for someone else. The springs are brass leaf springs, the traditional set up. If I make future keys with Argentium, I may screw on the leaf spring. This is a sterling that will not tarnish. There is also a new silver alloy that is made with 5% platnium, that is supposed to be very nice!

I like the long foot so I placed the key where it would be on a 8 key, of course you can spint the key anywhere you want on the flute. The short foot, tends to make the flute head heavy, also.

Wow, its finally happened…
Jon, I love the changes you made to the 001…I’ve been playing that one more than the Bauer lately…it does exactly what I want it to when I want it to…I can really push it and produce a big sound with the great R&R tone and timbre…I think this flute deserves some keys at some point…but I should really give some love to the Bauer for while. Its a shame I won’t be in the area much longer to see the flute get upgraded so I guess I’ll just have to ship it over when I’m ready.

Where are you headed, Michael? At least you got to go visit Jon a few times, which is more than most of us!
I’m going to attend Oxford University for an MPHIL (potentially changed into a DPHIL) in Theology beginning September so I won’t be able to try out Jon’s ever growing supply of flutes, but I do consider myself lucky for visiting him several times and owning a few of his babies. He is a good flute maker, wonderful friend and all around great person.
