CP:Gallagher practice set on eBay

Let me tell you a story…

About a year ago I suffered an elbow injury which forced me to stop doing veterinary work on dairy cows and focus strictly on small animals. This efectively cut my business income in half. The injury also made it extremely uncomfortable for me to play my, much loved, Lynch half set of pipes.

About that time my daughter met the love of her life and we had a wedding to pay for. So, sadly, I sold my 1/2 set.
My elbow has healed and I’m back to pipe playing (though I’ve retired permanently from cow punching ).

Since then two things have happened.

First, I recieved a lovely D practice set from Seth Gallagher which I had ordered a year or two ago. It has C and Fnat keys and is really a lovely player (as one would expect).

Second, I recently purchased a Gallagher full set. It’s really a glorious thing in excellent condition and plays absolutely beautifully.

The fellow selling it needed to do a cash sale due to some financial hardships and it occurred to me that there were likely a lot of pipers that would like a full set but didn’t have the dosh to swing a cash deal but might have a nice half set to offset the cost.

I am a 1/2 set player. I haven’t the time or inclination to become a full set player. But I thought I might score a nice 1/2 set and facilitate some nice half set owner’s dream of acquiring a full set through these shinnanigans so I did it.

Obviously, if I get a nice half set I won’t need the practice set either. So there you have it…

  • Some lucky fellow gets a new Gallagher practice set with no wait,
  • Some other lucky fellow gets to use his 1/2 set as cash toward a full set
  • I get the 1/2 set I want…everybody wins.

Facilitating this sort of thing for others was one of my main reasons for establishing the Irish Flute Store in the first place.

Certainly, if someone wants to offer cash for the full set I’ll take your name, but I’d really like to try the swapping route.

So, if you have a nice half set by a top maker (I am willing to consider any maker and any key) and would like to use it toward payment for this full set let me know via email or PM.

I’m also willing to take good flutes and whistles toward either set.

Hi Doc

If the Gallagher set is playing nicely, keep it and sell the practice set, you don’t have to use the regs.

Is the Full Nickel Silver or Brass?

I have a 1/2 for your full… sent u an email and voicemail.

Thanks,
Brian

I know and I’ve considered that but there’s no sense not letting someone that will enjoy them enjoy them.

Doc

Both sets are brass. The full set has a wooden chanter top.

Hi Doc,

I’m sorta new to the chiff… not sure of the system, how to private email, etc. I sent you an email at doc@irishflutestore.com and called you at the number on your site… I’m at flutio@yahoo.com and I can give you my number via that. I have a very nice 1/2 set and maybe some Burke Whistles for the Seth full.. it will go to good use, www.kellsband.com

Thanks,
Brian

This would be a good home to send it to. I can assure you of that. Plus I might get a chance to play them

Got the sets listed on the site so I could put some pictures up.

Doc, I could be mistaken but the bellows on the full set looks to be made by Michael Dow.

Looks like it’s the set from last week listed for $5900 posted on Sat. 7/12… nice set, all in all.

It is a Dow Bellows.

The full set has a new home. Thanks to all that expressed interest.

THe Practice set is still available.

Doc

I’d be willing to sell the 2-key chanter alone as well. Make me an offer.

The Gallagher practice set has gone to eBay.

It’s a reserve auction. If I get a good offer before the reserve is met I’ll stop the auction. Once the reserve is met the auction will be allowed to run its course.

Still happy to sell the chanter alone until the reserve is met. Also still happy to take trades, just let me know what you have in mind before bidding and we’ll work it out.

Best,

Doc
