Boisvert practice set on eBay

Doc Jones - are you the seller? Note: There are photos of two chanters in the auction - one cocobolo or rosewood and one blackwood but the description only mentions one chanter. Probably an oversight but you might want to correct it.

Only the chanter is by David.

…the chanter top is not made by me either.

The seller would be Doc Jones. The ebony chanter is the narrow-bore D previously auctioned. I think that photo was added accidentally by Doc…no mention of a second chanter in the listing.

Any thoughts about this one? I was going to wait to get a practice set but since this one has no reserve on it I thought I might watch it for a while.

i would choose Boisvert if he was still making them, i think he has postponded for a bit. i am thinking about this set.

Yup, I am the seller.

Couple of things to note:

-The black chanter picture was an accident and eBay won’t let me take it off.

-My impression was that the bellows was also by David. If anyone wants to PM me (or post here) who the bellows maker was I’ll happily correct the listing.

-I’m not selling it because I dislike it. I’m selling it because it’s what I do.
You know, buy things…sell things…feed little kids…buy more things…sell things…feed little kids etc. It’s an excellent chanter.

-Not surprised to hear you didn’t make the reed top David…perfectly functional but not as lovely as the rest of the stick.

I’m also the seller of the Gallagher B 1/2 set. Again, fabulous set. I’m just feeling the need to be monogamous with pipes to try to accelerate my skill development for awhile and my Lynch concert half set is in a key useful to the Family Band. Plus I’ve got some regs coming from Kirk some day.

Doc

If you’re going to be monogamous maybe the one you’d introduce your mom to would be better than the wild young thing. At least the wild young thing isn’t trashy

Huh?

I did NOT make the bag or the bellows or any of the other bits other than the chanter body itself.

Steamwalker: That was humor aimed at the differences between flat and concert pitch. B to many is a bit more respectable and dignified than concert pitch.

Not sure I’d agree. It’s down to the way the pipes are played and the particular style of the piper. To me, certain pipers sound better on concert pitch than flat pitch pipes. Willie Clancy, Leo Rowsome and Liam O’Flynn are three I’d put in that category.

I’ve corrected the listing. I really appreciate the corrections. My apologies for the confusion.

Doc

It’s not necessarily a pipes reference PJ, and intended to reflect an entirely subjective nature with tongue firmly in cheek

Regarding the practice set, the bellows look like the work of Seth Hamon.

Nice half set. 6 days to go and already 80 bids!! Still, it might be worth a bid…

What is this thing with pipers and monogamy?

Have we not got a reputation to live up/down to?

In my case as a multi-instrumentalist, full-time veterinarian, part-time Czar of an Illustrious Global Tooter Selling Empire, with 13 kids it’s just a question of hours in the day.

I’d like to be a good piper someday. The few precious minutes a day I can devote to it can’t be diluted by trying to get intimately acquainted with two sets. At the ed of the day, it’s a D set that I really need (to be useful the to the Family band) and my Lynch 1/2 set is lovely.

I could keep the Gallagher B set just to be able to glory in the wonderment of the amazing tone and response once a week or so but I think it deserves much more than that and, as scarce as pipes are, it just seems friendly to let someone else have a chance at them. I’m sure I’ll regret it…beginning to already. Maybe the reserve won’t be met.:boggle:

Doc

I am watching it like a hawk.

The auction for the Gallagher B set was stopped.

What’s the story Doc?

eBay canned it because I mentioned my site. They’re a bit cranky that way.

I’ll get it re-listed tonight.
