COPPERS AND BRASS : The Piping Tradition of Irish Travellers

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of this documentary: COPPERS AND BRASS : The Piping Tradition of Irish Travellers Haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, looks like a good flick. Some of those boys can really play, not just “bad flute playing” as their style’s detractors used to say.

I’ve really wanted to see this. Thank you!!!

Incredible! I just watched the whole thing. Thanks for putting this up.

Bill Ochs once said that Andy Conroy told him that the Travellers “could beat you just tuning up” (or something to that effect), meaning that they kept their sets in such great working order that people would rather to hear that (and be willing to shell out money for it) than actual tunes played by others.

Thanks for posting this, Kevin. I peeked at a bit, and can’t wait to watch the whole thing.

That was quite good; thanks for posting the link.

very good video.

thanks kevin. been a long time. 17 years perhaps since I’ve talked to you. hope you are doing well.

Andrey

Thanks for the link. Took me a while to watch the whole thing. Even saw O’Donoghues Bar, where I heard the uilleann pipes for the first time in the summer of 71. That player was also featured.

very informative and enjoyable!

The biggest take I get is how easy they seem to play the pipes, i was happy with my half set and thinking now that adding some reg may be nice,.

I’ve been playing with my 2 boys. 1 is playing whistle and 2nd plays the guitar. and I find that it is better to play without drones when playing with other instrument . thinking regulator may be better than drones XD. oh well.
