I’ve come up with a design for whistles that I’m really happy with. Here’s some pics:

Look great, and some very nice craftmanship also. Cant’ wait to hear the difference the copper top makes.
Thanks!
I added the video now.
Pretty much identical to the design I ended up with when I was making my own whistles, except in copper instead of brass. The mouthpiece construction is non-complicated and easy to deal with, I thought
A number of folks don’t like that Abell-style taper to the mouthpiece though, and have told me they prefer a more beak-like mouthpiece (which you can accomplish with a dremel tool and a sanding drum).
When I saw the title of this thread I tought maybe Gary Humphrey was going back to the “copperhead” design. LOL

Nice whistle, Jordan.

Nope, what was his design like? Same thing?
Hey Jordan:
Nice whistle, and nice video! Your “Star of the County Down” was a little unusual to me, but everything else sounded nice. You definitely have a command of your ornamentation, but I would just watch your rythms and tempos at times. They seem to get away from you.
What I wanted to ask was, did you seal your copper mouthpiece at all with a coating, or is it just the raw metal? If raw, do you notice it leaving a bad taste in your mouth after playing it?
I was contemplating trying a metal top for my homemade, but didn’t know if it would leave a bad taste.
Keep up the great work both on whistle making and playing!
Cheers!
John

No, Gary’s was a bit more complex and was meant to fit on standard D tubes like Feadog, Gen, etc. Gary probably has better pictures. The only one I can find quickly is a thumbnail on Mick’s Virtual Whistle site. It’s the whistle used in the recording of “Kiss the Maid”.

When I saw your topic, I thought maybe you had come by one of Gary’s old heads. Your whistle follows a tried and true tradition among home builders though. Here’s one of mine.
I would guess a few others have tried this as well. The clip you recorded sounded good, keep at it.

It’s bare metal and there’s no bad taste.
btw, I also know the Star of the County Down as a hymn. So… I go into each part a bit differently than it does traditionaly. That’s just how I learned it.
Just a warning: CPVC dust is toxic, so please wear a mask when sanding or cutting it.
OK, thanks for the warning. I’ll make sure I do that next time.
Hi Jordan,
Nice going! Your whistle sounds good. All the best! Cyril

I made it tuneable! I’ll try and post some pics later.
