Only if the dealer actually has his way with repairs and maintenance. They just tried to tell me I needed $1600 worth of repairs. $20 later at Canadian tire store I purchased some oil detergent and problem solved.

well, the other case in which “Just Empty Every Pocket” applies is to Jeepers who love to customize, of which there are many. many people pour thousands of dollars into their Jeeps without doing any repairs at all. that’s part of the fun of owning a Jeep! >:)
now, if anybody knows where one can legally off-road on long island, i’d love to hear about it…

My Jeep is a 2000 and I wish I would have bought a 90-96 model. I have had valve issues from the start along with coils and plugs. Something about them though, I love my Jeep still. I will probably drive this till it dies and then buy another one.
I have no problem off-roading up here. Only expensive with the suspension on these newer Jeeps as they can’t handle it like the old ones.
huh?? as Jeeps right off the showroom floor go, the TJ - '97 and up - is the most off-road-ready Jeep ever made, and the YJ that directly preceded it is the least so! the earlier models can’t hold a candle to the TJ’s four-point independent coil suspension. and as for reliability, i think it’s kind of hit-or-miss, on a truck-by-truck basis - i’ve heard people wail and groan about all the problems they’ve had with their 2001’s, but i bought my '01 used on eBay and i’ve put about twenty thousand miles on it, including some very rough handling, and i haven’t had a single problem with it yet (knock wood). it’s as tight and strong as new.
oh…it occurs to me that you may be talking about Cherokee-style trucks. i don’t know anything about those. but i don’t think of those as Jeeps either - to me they’re “Jeep vehicles.” they carry the brand name, but they’re not the direct descendents of “the truck that won the war.”

2000 TJ is what I drive. Sway bar links pop like popcorn twice so far. They added those I think in 98 to help with better highway driving, people are building quick connects now for them so they can disable them before they take them off road.
ah, right. understood. and yeah, quick disconnects are a good idea.
