Comparison: baroque flute vs. Pratten flute

Just took the photo for another purpose, but I found it interesting to see one hundred years of flute development side-by-side. So I though I could share it. It’s a bit blurry unfortunately…

Left: traverso after G.A. Rottenburgh
Right: Pratten flute by Tom Aebi

And here’s another one (please note that I did a little montage - you’d never have noticed, eh?) - note the distance between the fingering holes. Both flutes are tuned to a=440Hz. That Pratten doesn’t seem to be that evil regarding finger stretch any more now.

A fun comparison! Who made your Rottenburgh copy? Baroque flutes definitely do have hand stretching issues!

It’s a common factory-made one by Moeck. Nothing special. I just have it on loan from a friend to noodle around on it a bit. I do fancy a a=415Hz Palanca copy though, mainly for it’s oval embouchure.
