OK, so I feel guilty, the only time I do a post on a flute is when I’m selling it.
Well this time I’m doing a post before I sell the flute! ![]()
This flute was a very pleasant surprise! It’s the one in the middle (Pratten left and Rudall right):

It was made by Desi Seery, although I don’t know when. The wood appears to be ebony (would be my favorite flute wood if it didn’t always crack) and the workmanship is very good (check out the endcap). Unfortunately the fully lined head and barrel both cracked, but they’ve been mended and are ready to go.
What really surprised me is how sweet this flute plays! The holes are sized like a medium/small holed Rudall, but the bore is very small. The liner in the head has a diameter of just 18 mm and the top tennon comes in with a bore of just 17.5 mm. This makes the top of the 2nd and 3rd. octaves sweet and nearly effortless. Surprisingly the bottom D is firm, though you can’t really blast it.

I haven’t had any other flutes with this small of a bore since the French CAMAC flutes.
Just thought others might enjoy seeing this Blast from the Past!
