Just a follow up - thanks to all for your comments and encouragement. I managed to play along for a couple of rounds of KOTF at the session the other night. Is this a particularly easy tune? I ask because I found it relatively easy to rejoin when I goofed at breathing.
Sticking the normal B in the B part instead of the unobtainable B solves the problem with the timing, but sounds a bit of an abrupt jump. I think there is also something else (clever/fast) going on in the tune at that point that my ears cannot quite distinguish.
I don’t know that it is a particularly easy tune, I can think of easier ones, but I think it’s just that you’ve been practicing it for a while so you probably don’t have to think about it that much. It makes it a lot easier when you know a tune to the point that you don’t have to consciously figure out where to jump in.
Also because it’s got a slower tempo, you have a little more breathing room to get settled and pick a spot to jump in. It’s a little tougher to do that with a fast tune…
