It has got to be one of the most absolutely emotional and truly beautiful pieces of music ever done. I bought the CD just for that tune.
I’m like you, every time I hear it, I still get “hit” just like I did the first time I heard it(on that Volkswagen commercial).

I think Maire Brennan’s name should be in the pantheon of most haunting Celtic folk-rock and trad-rock voices, along with Sandy Denney, Jacqui McShee and Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh. 
If it wasn’t for the TV exposure, I’d have never learned about Clannad.
Me too. The first time I heard that commercial I ran into the room to see what was on the TV then set out to find that music…
I think that the first time I heard Clannad was in the old Showtime series ‘Robin Hood’ with Michael Praed and later Jason Connery (Sean’s boy). Clannad composed the sound track for that series and it left a lasting impression on me. Great stuff to study to.
Oh I had forgotten about that show. Yeah, I loved that- folks running around in deer heads, etc. At the time I did not know Clannad did the music. Recoginzed it when I bought a cd of theirs that had some of the tunes.
My husband and daughters hated that show and use to complain through it.
I could mention it right now and they would remember it and groan…
I like Harry’s Game, too, but I’m glad they haven’t fallen into that rut where every song on every album sounds exactly like their greatest hit.
Being a guitarist, I like how each album has one or two decent guitar tunes (e.g. Wilderness from the Anam album).
By the way, have any other guitarists here mastered the guitar part to Coinleach Ghlas an Fhomair? I’ve been working on that one for years and I’m not even close!
What Clannad CD contains ‘Harry’s Game?’ You have me curious to hear the tune.
What would you consider the best Clannad CDs to own?

Well .. I’m not playing guitar these days but I did work on that song for a
while a few years ago after a dare from my dear Husband. But then he
challenged me to also sing it in Irish and my brain fused. I barely
remember what I did with that but seem to remember you are hearing 2
guitars on that not 1. I do recall sitting with my ear glued to one speaker
to try and separate them.
It was shortly after that I gave up and stuck to the flute ever since!
