Claire Keville and Pat O'Connor

These two East Clare musicians are going to be touring around the east coast of the U.S. over the next couple of weeks. I highly recommend checking them out. I just saw them last night and they were wonderful. For those unfamiliar with them, Claire plays concertina and Pat plays fiddle.

I beieve they are going to Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, South Carolina, New Hampshire and maybe New York. If you Google thier names, you’ll find dates and venues.

Again, if they’re playing near you, don’t miss them!

Do you know if they have any CDs out? Sounds like a combination I’d like.

I’ve found info about a few shows, but I’ve been unable to find a comprehensive list. If anyone knows the full schedule I’d appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything in Ohio yet. :frowning:

They don’t have a duet CD, though I really hope they produce one. They are a good combination.

Claire is featured on Brenda Keville’s CD, and Pat has a couple of his own CDs.

Omitting this one seems a bit .. of an omission

Alright, somebody needs to find out when and where in South Carolina they will be, because I sure as hell can’t.

Maybe he meant North Carolina. They’ll be here on Monday night.

Oh PLEEEEAASSE forgive me for not doing an extensive search. I’m not thier promoter, I just went to see them.

:stuck_out_tongue:

It could be North Carolina instead of South. They listed off a bunch places they would be. I just thought I would give people an idea of the areas…

OOOH touchy are we?

nothing in your post to suggest you weren’t promoting them nor that you went to see them. And to be honest no search, let alone an extensive one should have been needed.

Claire is from Headford in Co Galway by the way, living in Ennis, neither of which is in East Clare . And her sister’s name is Breda.

Hello everyone,

After reading through this thread I was wondering is there much of a demand in America for hearing duets and trios of the smaller knit communitys of Ireland where players have played for years together but have never been really marketed.

My favorite gigs to see are duets and trios of people who understand each others music because they have played for years in some unknown pub somewhere. When I hear music like this it reminds me how honest and great the RAW BAR can be.

I think the Born For Sport album sums it up very well the kind of sound I mean.

Cheers Bredan Mulholland.

Except Pat O’Connor isn’t on that album. . . Claire doesn’t play with the folks on that album anymore. . . according to my source. . . who heard it from Claire.

And Claire isn’t on Pat’s solo albums mentioned. But that doesn’t make this a less enjoyable and worthwhile CD does it?

Oh no, very enjoyable indeed.

Mark

Claire’s sister, Breda, has a wonderful CD of Clare tunes, very much in the style of Junior Creehan. Really elegantly played. I heard her on Clare FM and have to buy the CD.

Highly recommended. I picked up recently when Peter pointed it out to me. Yummy.

I’ll have played in 3 sessions with them before the end of the tour. Great folks and musicians - not at all pretentious and very personable.

i’m desolate that we won’t be seeing this duo on the Left Coast. they are two of my favorite players. i too have my fingers crossed for a cd. and i too was told a couple of years ago in clare that the trio on the cd including claire k. is no longer a trio—but i have this cd and it is lovely. oh, here’s another “i too”—the breda keville cd is one of my favorite releases of the year, along with kitty hayes and peter laban’s; the john joe casey concertina cd, and the martin o’brien concertina recording of east clare tunes. [i’m not a promoter, just a fan-atic…!]

Yes, just a little touchy :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the East Clare folk will tell you that Ennis is on thier side of the fuzzy line, though it’s really right in the middle. And doesn’t Pat O’Coonor live in Feakle? Anyhoo, the duo seem to get billed as being from East Clare.

I have yet to hear anyone claim Ennis for East Clare

and they could have been billed as anything, celtic or whatever. It’s marketing. Pat does play East Clare styles more than anything else but I really wouldn’t put them down as an ‘East Clare duo’ they’re a bit broader than that. I don’t miond, I was just poking a bit.
