I’ve never heard Chulrua in person, but we used to catch Paddy O’Brien playing at Kieran’s when we passed through Minneapolis around Christmas each year. Boy, he is really great. I would go a long way to hear him. Sadly, we were told that they weren’t booking traditional music at Kieran’s anymore so the last time we saw him there was really the last time for us.

They have played here at least once a year for the past five years that I’m aware of. I have now had the pleasure of seeing Paddy O’Brien, Pat Egan and each of: Tim Britton and Patrick Ourceau. I hear really great things about Dale Russ so this should be another really good show.
One of the first times I ever met Paddy was about 10 years ago at the Augusta Summer school in WV. He taught a class that consisted of him coming into the room, sitting down and talking about the music, the tunes he knows, where he got them, who the players were he got them from, his family and the musicians they knew, why tune-X is played with ornamentation-Y in his home but with ornament-Z’ in county -M and ornament-p in county-G… I think he knows every tune in the world at least 5 differnt ways and can tell you all about the differences

Paddy is one of the great masters of his music and instrument. I recommend the show to all who would like to hear some of the tunes you won’t get at sessions… the really cool and older stuff.
Should be a good show, shame that Patrick won’t be there, but still.
On a side note, when I first read the thread title I thought it said “Cthulhu” instead of Chulrua. Now that would be a show!
