A sunny day in St. Louis, temp in the 50s,
a fair number of people out walking on the Delmar Loop.
Shifting back and forth tween a Copley F flute
and a Susato C whistle, both very audible.
Christmas carols, mostly.
45 dollars in an hour and a half.
This happens at least once a year, weather
permitting. The most gorgeous and beloved
music in the western world (plus some
middle eastern stuff thrown in), played to appreciative
people on instruments ideally suited to
the music.
Gee, I wish it was always like this!
Merry Christmas, everyone!
Have you ever tried busking in the CWE? I’d suggest the fountain on Maryland near all the coffee shops.
I do miss StL from time to time
I think the fountain there is gone. A lot of work has happened
on Maryland. To answer your question, I have busked a couple
of times in the Central West End as part of A Taste Of The
Central West End street fair. But I haven’t been there
for awhile to busk (though I often go there to walk around).
To the curious, the CWE is a part of St. Louis that includes
Euclid Street, which runs N/S for a mile or so; lots
of coffee shops, boutiques, bookstores, restaurants.
It’s a really nice part of town. Some great Welsh pubs,
too, Dressels and Llewellyns (sp?). There’s Left Bank Books,
catering to radicals and general book lovers.
It isn’t exactly clear to me where to stand to play there,
but I will give it some thought, being inspired by your
post.
