Chiffy Prayer Group

Cranberry, Good luck.

Being an Atheist, I don’t pray.I do however, welcome the opportunity to send a fellow Chiffer my support and / or commiserations when the need arises.Emotional support does not always take the form of Prayer.

While I’m here I would like to say to Cranberry “Best wishes old friend and I hope it all goes well”.
Or, as my Mother was fond of saying “F**k the begrudgers”

Slan,
D.

My kind of woman. Congratulations.

He couldn’t really pick his mother though, could he? I mean, wouldn’t you congratulate someone more if it was his wife or something?

Why not weigh in. . .if this was just the one original thread I wouldn’t have even looked in on it, as I am an atheist and prayer meetings – even eprayer meetings – give me a case of chills, but Beth’s tangential thread made me come and look to see what was going on.

If the thread became something that lasted, there may well be a whole bunch of people I would like to show my thoughts and support for but I missed their posts because of the religious tone of the thread. I personally like to see the individual ‘keep me in your thoughts’ sort of posts. They’re personal. They tend to deal with big, life issues and while I may not respond publicly, I do tend to ask about the situation when I have private dealings.

Sincerely,
Tyg

Well, gee, I don’t know. If someone I knew won the lottery, I’d sure congratulate them.

Good god Peter, this may or may not be true, but it’s not for you to say so.

Cran, you know i’m not a religious fellow, but i know you’re scared shitless, if i were you i’d be having diarrhea non-stop.
Use your head, you’re a smart chap, i know you will find a way to cope with this stress.
I won’t pray for you, but i’ll keep you in my thoughts.
take care dude.

 Good one, Amar!

hehehehe…yeah, i saw that one myself too. but hey, it’s a figure of speech.

Well, yes, I would too. But they bought a ticket, right? They had something to do with it, even if luck had even more to do with it..

If a chunk of gold broke off a rock and landed at the feet of someone passing by, would I congratulate them? I think if I did it would seem as though I thought they had been specially picked to get that chunk of gold when it was actually a random event. But maybe you are saying that dubh and his mother were specially picked to go together.

I’m not trying to insult dubh’s mother or dubh or anyone else.

This post intentionally left blank.

People are often congratulated for having good fortune. It’s just a way of saying, “I’m happy for you, and maybe a bit envious.”

Y’know, it’s kinda funny. I’m going to have to go search for that “How many pagans on the board” thread awhile back. I don’t recall any of our non-religious types raising a ruckus about that one.

I wonder how quickly my inbox would fill up with offended Overton/Copeland/etc. owners if I started a Chieftain whistle owners thread, thus excluding owners of different low d whistles? Hmmmm. 'Course, everyone’s pretty much cool with not believing in someone else’s choice of low whistle. So why isn’t anyone cool with someone else’s choice of deity?

Overtly religious threads give some folks the willies. Why? If you don’t believe … … well, it just seems to me that it’s not necessarily the problem of the person who originates the thread. :poke:

If I’ve offended anyone, please know that it’s unintentional. But if you do feel the need to reply, you know where PM button is. :stuck_out_tongue:

Best,

Little John

Why should it have caused a ruckus with “non-religious types”? Similar, christian-themed threads haven’t been met with a ruckus. Religion is discussed on this board on a daily basis.

Bizarre comparison; I’ll give you that. Why do you think people aren’t cool with someone else’s choice of diety? That has not been mentioned in this thread. I can’t recall that being said in the religious discussions around here as a whole.

Thank you for giving an example of my point

Oh no you don’t. You made a public reply, but expect private comments of rebuttal? :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay, I guess congratulations are in order dubh. I can tell when I’m licked.

littlejohngael, I think almost everyone here is very happy with everyone else’s choice of deity. Whatever the discussion is about, it isn’t about that.

A Chiffy Prayer Group? I thought that’s what the Chiff and Fippre Whistre Forum was for…

Damn, is there a shortage of “L’s” down there in Kent?

Absorutery.

Saw through my veiled bid to actually have someone send me a private message, eh? Pooh. I’ll have to sell something to get PMs.

I’ve never been so bold. If you figure out the point of the thread, let me know. lol …
