Chicago Celtic Fest - Did Anyone Go?

Just curious to see if anyone attended the Chicago Celtic Fest, and if so, what did you think? How does it stack up to others that you have been to?

I visited from cAlfornia, and compared to the ones I’ve been to out here, I thoughtit was awesome. Granted I couldn’t stay long and I spent most of my time in the Uilleann Piping tent. I am looking foward to trying to get outthere again next year so I can see more of the performances. Two thumbs up from me though.

Did you see Pat Cannady?? Details- Details!!
ps its showering and have some lightning here in So Cal- strange weather but good for the reeds

Yeah, I had the pleasure of meeting Pat and several other very nice lads. He mentioned that he’s coming to the LA tionol. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay for the pipng performances at Celticfest, but got to play a couple tunes with the guys.

Howyadoin’?

My SO, Karen Cook, and I played a bunch of old tunes on B pipes and flat tuned fiddle. We were joined by 84-years-young bodhran player and staunch Mayo man, Malachy Towey. He has been in Chicago for over 50 years, playing at sessions with Kevin Henry and many other fine musicians in that time. Malachy often accompanies Kevin on gigs and he appears on Kevin’s CD, One’s Own Place.

Anyway we played a lot of Kevin’s tunes and it seemed to go pretty well, we didn’t frighten the crowd away at least.

I have to tip my hat to all the other pipers, we had some very fine performances at the tent. Many thanks to Brendan McKinney, Tommy Martin, Pat Broaders, and Tim Britton for the tunes and the laughs.

See you in October
