Cheap and high quality Uilleann?

Hi every body!
While looking for a really cheap uilleann, I found one, that according to the info, was build in Pakistan.

Does someone know anything of this uilleann?

Hi Norman,

Just to get you started on the right foot the correct way to refer to these pipes is “uilleann pipes” uilleann alone just means elbow and nobody wants to hear an elbow play music

Best of luck,

Pat.

 thanks for the advice    But, you didn’t respond to my question…

Stay away from any Pakistan made pipes, unless reworked by a competent maker. See “sticky” thread about Pakistani pipes at the top of the UP forum .

You asked about “Cheap and High Quality” uilleann pipes. Your first step is to read the FAQs for this board:

http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=14466

They include information about the Pakistani sets. Your next several steps should be the ones you take, running away from the Pakistani sets. They are just no good, and will frustrate you and waste your time, effort, and money.

If you read the Chiffboard carefully, you will find lots of good advice on uilleann pipe makers that can get you started with a high quality set for a reasonable price.

Good luck!

Wow! :astonished: it’s soo interesting! Sorry, I don’t speak English, so… it would take much TO reading the FAQ  even using a translator…

Only buy pipes by a well known pipemaker.

Pat.

cool! What UP do you play in your videos?

That’s my Koehler & Quinn concert pitched set. Externally it is based on the Taylor Brothers work and inside it’s more Rowsome.

Pat.

Hey Ramirez!

You’d be better of buying a duck instead of that uilleann pipe on Lark in the morning. I’d guess they produce pretty much the same sound.

Are you looking for a full set, 3/4 set, half set or practice set?

If practice/half set is what you are looking for i’d strongly reccomend David Daye (http://www.daye1.com/pennychanter.html) or Patrick Sky (http://www.patricksky.com/Pipes%20prices-5.htm). There are alot of info on David Daye’s pipes if you look around on this forum, i don’t think that i’ve ever read anything negative about them (or Pat Sky’s pipes).

Don’t even think about buying the pipes from lark in the morning.

Good luck!

WHat an odd combination of words…rather an oxymoron…like postal service or army intelligence…cheap high quality?? You get what you pay for. ..I know there’s a latin phrase for that…ah well, so much for “classical education”

Cheap and High Quality. How about a gas guzzling truck that doesn’t guzzle gas? :really:

Hi I bought a set last October (Hakin Dim) and have spent 6 months re building them I was lucky enough to get the chanter re worked and reeded by David Tyrer he did a great job and it was quite playable I have now bought a Eugene Lambe Chanter which is great I wish I had bought a tidy set in the first place as i would have been playing 6 months earlier any ways David Tyrer is pretty clever with Pakastani chanters /pipes and has got a few of them playing well
the bellows and bag i took apart and re built as the "gaureneed leak free bellows bag " had I recon been glued together with prit stick i have now re-glued and rivited them and got them working ok no leaks but I will change them soon.

This is a great site for honest down to earth advice and help especiallu for those looking to enter the uilleann world so when the advice given is DONT BUY THEM it’s good advice

Happy piping
