chanter from one maker, drones from another

i have a chanter and would like to add drones.

im thinking of ordering them from a different maker.

am i asking for trouble and frustration?

You should be okay with this. The main consideration will be to get the air requirements of the chanter and drone reeds balanced properly, but that would be necessary in any case. I don’t think mixed sets are any big deal - happens all the time.

I think Bill is quite right on this. The only possible concern that you might have is to make sure you mix like with like, e.g. if you have a narrow bore chanter, get drones to match.

You shouldn’t have a bother.

I have a Johnny Bourke chanter,
Kevin Thompson regulators and drones that the tenor and baritone were made by Leo Rowsome and the Bass and stock were made by Kevin Thompson and recently fixed up be Dave Boisvert!!!
And they work!

Tommy

thats some mix tom

thanks for the advice.

Dunne chanter with Roberts drones.. works so and so … BUT…next
set is coming from one maker, (it’s sooo much easier all the way).
Cheers,
