Ceonet?

Hey Gang, :poke:

Is anyone else having probs with Ceolnet? Granted, I haven’t been to the site in a while, but it’s asking for a username, password and domain when I try to search the audio archives.

Many thanks for any help!

Bok

Meant “Ceolnet”, of course … “Ceonet” would be an archive of various fogs, mists and drizzles, I imagine…

BC, you’re doing better than me. I can’t get anything to work on this site. Perhaps they’re in the midst of moving or updating the site (?).

I think they’re perhaps trying to make a buck now. I wrote RTE’s Peter Browne about it, he said he didn’t know it had become members only now.

Contact Ceolnet at

to find out what the deal is.

Many thanks, guys, much appreciated. I miss those archives!

I just tried it - couldn’t get it to work, either… and now I can’t even close the window!

I was able to get into Ceolnet today with no problems. Most of the sound files come up with a note saying they have been renamed, so I guess they have been reworking the site. Some of the URLs from Google seem to behave differently. This one worked for me: http://www.rte.ie/radio/ceolnet/. Note that this site only works with IE, not Netscape (typical Microsoft shenanigans).

Kevin, you said you got a log-in prompt. Where were you in the menus? When you go searching, are you just, for example, going Artists => Musicians => (name) => Tracks, playing and recording from there, or is there someplace in the site with more extensive archives?

Thx,

djm

Well observed, a Bhac tSeoigh. Of course it could also be a conspiracy of greedy, grasping ego-trippers colluding to rip off consumers and shareholders.

Brilliant, djm!! Worked like a charm! Ahhhhhhhh…I’ll never take it for granted again. If y’all get a chance, listen to “Caoineadh Oisin”…that one track is the main reason I log onto Ceolnet. I have been unsuccessful in finding out anything at all about this group, the Cork Traditional Trio…

Best, and thanks,

BC

That link to CeolNet worked without a hitch for me. Whatever I’d had before was getting the login prompt for some damn reason, when you’d try to select an artist’s tracks. Weird
Etaynoughay ithway ethay ayGaelithay.

Hey, I tried to access Sean Keane’s tracks and was requested to log in, by “hermes.rte.ie.” So perhaps it’s just the capitalist schweinhunden who are making it difficult for us.

Hmmm, when I try to play a file it tells me the name was such and such (java/HTML gibberish) and now is blah blah blah. Then it plays. It’s playing alright even on my pitiful 28k modem. (Should be 56k, bad phone lines)
Tommy Reck fans should know that the “Concert in the Rupert Guiness Hall” material of Joe Ryan’s are actually duets with an uncredited Tommy.

Kevin, I get those little mss files renamed messages as well. Probably part of a general rewrite on the site. I’m guessing that they have been using straight Microsoft to encode their pages and to serve it as well.

The whole site works well for me, but I am on ADSL, I’m using the latest version of IE, and I accept the RTE cookies. Any of these things might be causing you problems with your connections.

BC, very nice tune! Almost hymn-like.

Isn’t that something? I’ve played it for people who don’t know it’s a lament, and they nearly always remark on how sad it sounds.

Yes, but are they UPers? Do they like Bill the Cat, or marmalade, or have a pathological propensity for pissing others off?

'Twere a radio show host, a UPS guy, and my mother

But my sister wore a Bill the Cat t-shirt to the first day of basic training…I, not nearly so brave, was sporting some cartoon penguin character. Both went over real well.
