CEOL AN PHÍOBAIRE - NPU Publication

Does anyone have a tune listing for this publication?

I received an email over the weekend from NPU.

Cheers,

Liam

Whats up with NPU anyways? I signed up for membership on line a few mos ago. Nothing in response. No passwords. No magazines arriving in the mail. Nothing. No one is minding the store. I’ve had this problem with the group before. Anyone else?

I renewed my membership about a month ago, and ordered some CDs and DVDs at the same time, and got them swiftly and everything, so someone is minding the store, that’s for certain.

Does anyone have a tune listing for this publication

I assumed it’s a reprint of the 1980 (is it really that long ago?) book, all tunes published in An Piobaire between 1971-1978. But on closer look comments and pictures seem to be included in this edition where they weren’t before. So it appears it’s an expanded re-issue.

The announcement seems to suggest the pipers/tunes included are the same as those in the original edition but it’s hard to tell. NPU announced preparations a second volume bringing together tunes that appeared in An Puiobaire during the 80s and 90s, had started, what was it, ten years or so ago. I don’t see any indication tunes from post 1978 An Piobaires have been included, the blurb isn’t clear on that. It would seem that never came together.

Terry?

That’s what I was thinking. I have the 1981 Ceol an Phiobaire. 71 to 78 apparently.

I am guessing that this is a reissue ‘deluxe’ edition?

On the fees front, I signed up in Ireland about 8 years ago. Had access for about 3 months then was told I had no membership. Forgot to follow up as I was heading back to Oz. I have since rejoined (could not use my old login…) but since then, no issues, get my mail outs and all products ordered arrive a ok.

Make the enquiry, sort the membership and support the organisation that does so much for this instrument.

I don’t know if I got an email when I signed on; IIRC my stuff just sort of worked. But Terry Moylan just wrote in on the Johnny Doran thread … https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/how-to-make-a-thread-bookmark/61/1 He goes by “Terry Moylan” on this board. Maybe send him a PM?

I wrote NPU and asked if the new book differs from the old and this is the reply I got from Terry Moylan:

This edition contains the same selection of music as the 1981 book, but the music has been re-set (and in some cases corrected), and the notes that accompanied the tunes in An Píobaire, which weren’t in the first edition, are included in this one. Also, there are photographs of all the source musicians.
