Actually, it’s not a “Celtic” album. But it’s really good.
There was a thread a while back that discussed non-traditional whistle/Irish-based music. And another thread about posting CD recommendations. So here goes.
There are 2 “Celtic Tales” albums by the Bocle Brothers. The 2nd is subtitled “Pas en dour” (orange album cover) and can be found on Amazon. The first appears to be out of stock except in modified form from mp3.com (under “Celtic Tales”) or the Bocles’ website.
I got the 2nd album abt half a yr ago and I still love it, so much so that I bought the 1st album from mp3.com as a NetCD recently.
They are basically jazz albums with fusion influences from rock, blues. Maybe some folky nuances. Nothing celtic about it except that the uilleann pipes feature as a key instrument on most tracks, and I think many of the musicians are Bretons (that the right word?). There is also a bit of low whistle (at least on the 2nd album).
Really good stuff if you like funky, rocky, jazz. Basically a double bass, drums, and Hammond B3 set-up for the group’s spine, then you have vibes, u.p., a bit of guitar, and Michael Brecker as guest saxophonist, for the solo instruments.
The Bocle brothers have more standard albums on mp3.com under “Bocle Brothers”. Guests on those include John Abercrombie, David Liebman.
[post edit: the double bass and B3 also take quite a few of the solos.]
