Hello Denny,
I worked for the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson AZ for 6 years. In that time I was a liaison officer for the Cerro Tololo Observatory in Chile, SA. Even though I was not a scientist in astronomy, I was on the mountian at Kitt Peak many times. The images that you have been showing are simply breathtaking. What a spectacular Universe.
That is the most beautiful thing in the world (well, besides amar…)
Is it a real cat’s eye or something from outer space (I notice it’s hosted by NASA)?
Never mind. I clicked it and saw that it’s a nebula…
A google search for “cat’s eye” brought up a lot of anime, porn, and rocks, but no upclose pictures of a real cat’s eye…
Noted.
I don’t know why, though. I knew cat’s eye was the name of a kind of rock, but I don’t get the connection with porn. It’s probably painfully obvious but I don’t have a lot of pornographic expertise, I’m afraid.
these are the cat’s eyes I’m familiar with:

Is that a necklace/bracelet? It’s so pretty. I want it!!
they are just beads - that you could use to make a necklace or bracelet. The beads come in a lot of sizes - and in shapes, too. Do a search on eBay for cats eye beads or fiber optic beads and you’ll find all kinds.
There’s a way cool image of the ring nebula, too, if you can find it. I used to have it for my wallpaper, but can’t find the original Hubble image anymore. It reveals the true bubble shape while retaining the translucence of the bubble.

Have you ever seen a piranha up close? That’s EXACTLY what their mouths look like right before they bite you! ![]()
Actually, I was referring to this one:

I was hoping it wasn’t this one.

Edit to add: djm, could you make your’s a link? I can not figure out where they have it.
Gosh, these pictures are fascinating!
Thanks!

Just right-mouse click on the image in my post to see the properties. The URL of the image should be right there. Its http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0309/ngc3132_hst.jpg

Incredible! I have heard (just a rumour) that even the astronomers who study these things can’t help but just stop and admire the beauty of these images from time to time.
