This is always a fun camp, it’s at the marine biology lab of the Univ. of Washington, on San Juan Island. Catherine’s a fantastic teacher. Lots of great classes, sessions and concerts. Highly recommended!

I’m bumping this up because there’s still room left in Catherine’s classes for anyone who’s been thinking about going.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the greatest Irish flute players of our time, and it’s a treat simply to be in her presence. Not to mention the gorgeous setting and a cast of none-too-shabby other instructors. I had been hoping to go again myself this year but my schedule won’t work out.
I’ll be back this year, Catherine really does a good job of teaching the tunes. My brain is full by halfway through the second class, but that’s why we carry around little recording devices, I usually have a couple years worth of tunes to listen to when I get back home. If you’re considering going, you really should!
Don
I’ll be there.
Between all of the action in Friday Harbor and the Lúnasa tour stops in Seattle, Mt. Vernon and Vancouver, the PNW will be extra saturated with Irish music that week.
Play some tunes for me, you guys. Friday Harbor was a real boost for me and my playing last year. I’d do it again if I could. Getting a week off from teaching is a hard thing to coordinate.
This was a beautiful setting and a wonderful sense of intimacy. Go for it!
Jennie
hey, Jennie, we’ll miss you in class. Maybe next year?
Don Thomsen
Heck, you won’t miss me! You’ll be having too much fun and focusing on the next piece of a new tune. You won’t have time to miss me.
Thanks, though. I wouldn’t mind being missed.
How about if I miss all you guys, instead.
Maybe someone who was there last time can forward me some sound files. My cool little MP3 device crashed, and I’m still playing all those tunes from memory.
Jennie
I forgot my recorder last year. But I’ve only forgotten one of the tunes, which was one that kinda got crammed in in the last few minutes. I don’t need to go to camps to learn tunes, but I always really enjoy playing the ones I get from Catherine.
