Carolan's Concerto

Anybody know where I can find music for this piece (i.e. Carolan’s Concerto)?

Go to JC’s ABC Tune Finder
http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/FindTune.html
and type in Carolan’s Concerto. It came up with lots of hits when I just tried it. I glanced at the first one and it looked nearly identical to the version I know.

This is a great tune. It’s also called “Mrs. Power” – the mother of Fanny Power.

When I was a hard drinking teenager in Ireland Carolan’s music was often played in pub sessions. In my sheet music file I have a separate section for Carolan. Don’t want it mixing in with lesser matter.

Carmel Gunning has a great version on her CD the Lakes of Sligo. Cathal McConnell also has a version that I heard somewhere. I like Carmel’s better.

if you have “101 best slow airs” its the last tune. if you have “pipe friendly tunes” by john walsh, its in there in the last section. the 2 versions are of course different and it lends itself well to learning by ear. there is a nice version on cut 11 of the chiefteins album "the celtic harp.

I am devoting a small bit of time each evening to learning that one, as well as Carolans Receipt… I figure I’ll have it down in a year or two! You can also find them in O’Neill’s big book ~ they have a whole section of Carolan tunes

Thanks for the link to the JC tune finder; great little site in itself- not only for the Carolan I was looking for. Found a recording of ‘concerto’ on the internet some time ago and listen to it all the time now. Now have music to learn it and drive my sweetie yet even further from my arms with incessant practice- why does everybody love listening to me whistling except those that have no choice in listening to it…

Ossian Publications publishes “The Complete Works of O’Carolan”. The great Derek Bell CD, Carolan’s Receipt" has a great rendering of this tune and a wealth of others. I’ve been devoting some time each day to Carolan tunes for the past month or so. Of the generally acknowledged 214 tunes, I figure I only have about 209 more to get acquainted with.

Keep at it, Dixie. I got the first part in two days. The second part took me nine months. Then I re-learned it with a lilt …

You can find a sample of Carmel Gunning playing.Carolans](http://www.whistleworkshop.co.uk/carolans_concerto.htm%22%3ECarolans) Concerto
The sheet music is there as well but not as Carmel plays it!
