I received this via another list with the request to pass it on (and thought you might appreciate it):
“The U.S. has asked that everyone step out on their lawns tonight at 10:30 eastern time and light a candle. They will be taking a
satellite picture of the U.S. and posting it on the news tomorrow
morning.”
Sigh…I receive on average three web hoaxes forwarded to me per month, from people either too ignorant or lazy to take the 90 seconds to check the veracity of these public insults on the web. No wonder we’re being slaughtered like sheep…
Wow, I’m really sorry. It never crossed my mind that this could be a hoax. Considering who I got it from and knowing personally that it is not a very difficult thing (I mean a satellite photograph).
So again, my apologies if I have offended anyone. Am not close to a source to check something like this and not being a US citizen I haven’t encountered or heard about well intended gestures not being exactly what they’re supposed to be. Oh well, satellite pictures will undoutebly be taken anyway…
I’m sure no one here is upset - good intentions mean a lot.
Some hoaxes are so transparent, though, that you have to wonder how they take off. Think of all the streetlights and headlights and porch lights in a town or city or village, or of the security lights on most rural spreads. How in the heck would candle flames show up on even the most sensitive picture?
I blame fatigue due to immsomnia, how does that sound?
Was just talking to a friend on the phone, not really paying attention. He said: Hello, can you hear me. I replied, no I can’t.
O Boy. Don’t know what he expects at 3 in the morning. I wanted to watch the live webcast from Paddy Reilly Music Bar (if I remember the name correct) in New York.
My eyelids won’t co-operate, unfortunately. Nor my brain, or my body, or my cats…
One would probably look far to find someone who has not been taken in by that combination. Throw love into the mix, and you have a sure recipe for all sorts of foolishness!
Don’t worry about it, Curly. It was a good thought, anyway.
Curlyblue it really was a good thought. And even though there was not a satellite there to take a picture I went out and lit my little candle anyway. Maybe you could see it flickering from where you were. I hope you had a good night’s rest.
Meg
