Last weekend my wife and I were at “The Fair at New Boston”, a historical re-enactment of an 18th century trade fair. A young man that was busking at the fair came into our tent for a glass of lemonade and an empty chair out of the sun. At our invitation he preformed for an hour to an hour and one half, playing the Uilleann pipes and a Copeland high D whistle. He also played one tune on my Chieftain Low D. It was a fantastic and wonderful experience to have this young man perform in our tent. Aside from having a talented performer to observe for the first time after taking up the whistle, this fellow also brought in the patrons and drew attention to the furniture that I make and sell. I feel that his performing in our tent was responsible for bringing in a couple that made a purchase that was very substantial. A side from the playing he also answered my prying, wondering, and novice questions with patience and guidance. All in all, a great experience!
The purpose of this post is to thank Tim Britton for his playing and his time. I also urge all C&Fers to purchase Tim’s CD, Chulrua, Barefoot on the Alter, featuring Tim Britton, Paddy O’Brien and Pat Egan. The web site address is http://www.chulrua.com I am of no relation to Tim and have no association with him or the men he performs with other that the busking he did in my tent on that hot, summer day. I do believe though, that by showing our support of Tim that he will be there, and be busking again next year, and Jo Anna and I will again have the pleasure of him playing in our tent. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to play a tune or two with him!![]()
