Unintentional busking while at work!!!!

I am into fourth month on not smoking and need something to do with my hands during my breaks at work and lunch time, I have taken to playing my whistle outside at these times, in front of the library.

I work on tunes that I want to learn, or just play tunes I already know, using a Bb, D and Low G whistles, whatever suits my fancy at the time. And have never thought of putting a hat out to collect money. But during this three month duration I have made about fifty five dollars with people just putting money on my music, even though I am wearing an ID badge for the library.

But today was a bonus. Next to our library is an office tower that has a telephone marketing company and the workers bail out for their smokes at the same time I do my lunch thing. Just as I was about to finish, one of them came over to me and gave me forty bucks from the marketing group – thanking me for the nice concert. Was it a concert!! I don’t think it was, but heck its MONEY !!!

Do I get an agent, quit my day job — naw, just take the money and run.

I will work for food. I will whistle for money to buy more whistles!

MarkB,

It’s a sign. The sign reads, “BUY MORE WHISTLES WITH THE MONEY.”

I’d busk during lunch but, I work in a school. The only thing I’d get in my hat is spit wads and trash.

You are really lucky then. I would have never even thought that some one might have thought that at all and give you money for it. WOW. lol.

If only I had a somewhere to go outside and play…

That is so cool, Mark!

Cool! Isn’t it fun when people show their appreciation for your music?

If i played somewhere someone would probably throw a brick at me.

I meant to congratulate you and encourage you earlier. This is great! Don’t ever pick them up again! You’ll want to…you’ll hear that little voice saying “Oh, just one, just this once won’t hurt” but it’s a lie. I’ve been telling that little voice to “Shut up” for about 17 years now!

Best wishes to you!

Kim

if only, if only:

“that’s nice. here’s some cash for ya!”

“kind sir, I can’t accept that money”

“why not”

::NO CASH TERMS. O'RIORDAN OR RARE WHISTLE ONLY.::

To Caoimhim et al, I play Burke’s Low G and Brass Pro D, and O’Riordan’s concert set D/C in cocobolo. which I have owened for about seven years. So I am quite happy with the whistles I have and don’t need anymore — well except, I am going to purchase a Michael Cronnelly new High D whistle.

Michael says it is very loud, just what I need for the Kildare House here in Windsor were a banjo and five fiddlers show up and a quitar player who thinks that her quitar and pounding leg are a lead instrument in the session.

I don’t have WHoA BUT I have BAD - bodhran acqiusition disorder – I own seven from 25 inches to 14" and am on the verge of purchasing a Brendan White triple skin 16".

And -ah -ah hum a Copley flute sometime in the new year.
