Dang, already closes with By It Now!
Steven,
Wow! That went faster than I expected. By the way, what were you doing up in the middle of the night? You must have WSDS (Whistler Sleep Deprived Syndrome). It is a common malady among whistle fanatics who, in the place of sleep, bring relaxation to their bodies by playing the whistle throughout the night. The only partial remedy I have found is one dose of fiddle and uilleann pipes. My syndromes only complicate at that point, but boy, is it fun!
God’s richest to you, Steven!
Tom
Thanks for diagnosing my disease, Tom, at least I now know why I bought your whistle ![]()
Paul
Wow, what a case!
It is quite a case. It is nuclear hardened. If figure if we get blasted, some survivor is going to enjoy a great whistle. But now it goes to the wonderful country of Canada to Paul.
Take care of this whistle Paul. It is a wonderful piece. I have personally met Mike Burke and he is a wonderful fellow. I went to his place a year ago while in the area (he lives about 2 hours from me) to pick up an A whistle.
He is very kind, very much an artist when it comes to his whistles. And I’ll tell you, the chap can play as well. It’s great to have people of his calibre out there giving us our whistle fix now and again!
Paul, after you receive the whistle, please let me know if you enjoy it. If for any reason you don’t, I will gladly buy it back from you for the same amount. I want people to be pleased with what they purchase from me. What a guarantee, huh?
Tom
Tom, I actually do not suffer from that malady yet. I am 2 or 3 hours earlier than you are, out here on the West Coast of CA. I also have a wife that lures me to bed at a fairly decent hour as well! ![]()
The other day I was going to bid on a Copeland Low D that was on the Bay and before I could even get my $325 bid in it was up near $400. Too rich for me!

Steven,
When I looked at the posting time of your first note it says 3:46 a.m. Then I looked later at the times that the C&F says my messages were posted and they are 6 hours late. If I post something at 7:30 a.m. the C&F said it was around 1:30 p.m.
I’m really surprised at the price that some will pay for a whistle. I have two whistles coming from Pat O’Riordan later next week, and that was one of the things that prompted me to sell one of my whistles. I have too many “D’s”. Now I only have on, and that too is a Burke. I have given away a couple of Susato’s to some new beginners to get them going.
How long have you been playing? Do you play any other instruments?
By the way, when the wife says “come to bed” don’t ever refuse!! Take care of your wife, she is, or should be, your most treasured relationship!

Tom Rayburn what are you getting from Pat …the traveler or the concert model ? dg
I got the aluminum D and A whistles. I was in a workshop three years ago in September and a man was playing Pat’s whistles. The man was actually giving the workshop. I was a newbie and wondered where he got the whistles. He gave me one of Pat’s cards and I waited a couple of months before I called him. I called him in Nov 2000.
Pat called this past week to say that the whistles were ready and wanted to know if I still wanted them. He does not take a down payment. I told him that I certainly wanted them, though I have several whistles currently.
I’m looking forward to receiving them, probably sometime after Thanksgiving.
