Looking to make a reed for a friend with a Bruce Childress D chanter. Curious to know if anyone out there has reeded their own Childress chanter and if there were any strange dimensions to watch out for. I’ll be sending the reeds blind as the chanter lives out of state - but wanted to at least shoot for a ballpark figure.

Here are his basic dimensions for his D chanter reed:
Staple 2 1/8" long, 3/16" diameter, .014" wall brass tube, head of the reed is .472".
As I said, basic, but I hope this helps.

Hello All,
Stick to the staple dimension Chris cited. The head dimension is a little more variable, according to what a particular piece of cane tells you to do. These days, I fancy a .49" head width. I like to get the cane slip as thin as I can get it. Somewhere around .030" thick at the center. I also have gotten some suprizingly good results from not bothering to cut a lay for the staple in the tail of the cane reedhead. Fine with me! Less Work!
