Boxwood

Hi,
I am new to this board. The thing is - my mother-in-law has 121 pieces of boxwood (13 3/4 in x 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 in). They are about 40 years old, so the wood has had plenty of time to settle  She wants to sell it. Do you guys think it could be of interest for a flute maker?

Thanks!

Amélie

1 1/4 square is probably going to be too small for most flute makers, but I sent you an email about the wood.

Cheers and welcome to the board.

Loren

Just about an inch to short for uilleann pipes making too :frowning:

Well for chanters anyway. It’d be ok for drones and some regulators.

Wow, we learn new things every day  thank you for your replies! Such nice wood! I am sure someone somewhere is just waiting for it  The thing is, it’s so rare, people are not even expecting it anymore!

Would it work for whistles? There are a number of makers working in wood, and some who work (or might want to) with boxwood.

Jon Swayne makes fine whistles from boxwood.

Where in the world you are probably affects practicalities of purchase and delivery, and therefore of potential interest!

Yes, chatting with you guys, I learned that it would work for whistles… I am located in Ontario, Canada, so for some US states, it’s not too far

You might cross post this thread over on the whistle forum for those individuals that don’t read each forum. A couple whistle makers that readily come to mind who might be interested in the boxwood are David O’Brien and Paul Busman. And there are other wood whistle makers too.

Hi all,

Apparently, “New members’ ability to work with private messages kicks in after 3 posts”… Sorry if I wasn’t able to read your message,
