I could use some help with this. I just uploaded a file to box.net using garageband on my mac. I linked to the file as always, but some how I ended up with a download as opposed to a direct link to the file. Apparently it is a different format than mp3? How do I change this?
Thanks, Arbo.
FWIW - the file extension suggests that the format of your file is MPEG-4 Audio, not MP3. But I have reason to believe that box.net does mess with file types. I’ve been able to host MP3 files with no problem, but not PDFs.
Yes, that’s it. Save and upload your recording in mp3 format, not m4a. Not everyone (including me) can easily handle m4a files or uses iTunes.
AFAIK, box.net doesn’t “mess with file types”, but offers a preview or player for only certain types. Apparently, m4a is not one of them.
Thanks folks!
I figured as much. Do either of you happen to know a program that will let me convert m4a to the mp3 format? I’m using a Mac (os10.4…). Thanks. I’ll have to check further with the garage band program and see what the deal is with conversions. It seems to convert automatically when saving to disk.

Doesn’t Garage Band give you a choice of output formats? If not, you can try this online Media Convert site. I ran your Butcher’s March through it, and it converted to mp3 just fine.
Thanks MT.
Perhaps garageband does, but I haven’t found out how. In the interim, I found a free download called Switch, which seems to work just fine. Thanks!
