Well there’s funny (weird) and funny (ha-ha). I usually use the term in an intentionally ambiguous way.

Hey!
LOL! Happy New Year!
I hope this isn’t a put-on. My mind is very twisted at the moment, pondering a Mrs. Stony… She puts up with this dude??? My gawd…
If real, welcome to Chiffdom, KO. Stony is a pal of mine, net-wise, and I think the world of him, despite the repeated accusations of sophistry by a now-departed chiffster.
Your memory is long, O Weeks.
Doubtless, then, you will also remember that Jim’s told us that KO is a boxing enthusiast and practitioner. I’m sure she puts the fear o’ God into him. I can see it now:
“Don’t make me get all Dempseyish on your a$$, Jimbo. You will come to a short end, and that will be your story.”
“Yes, dear.”
that’s something we could use a bit more of here…romance!
I’m real. (Thanks for the welcome.) I don’t really plan on staying around all that long, though. I play no musical instrument. I avoid political discussions. So I’m not really sure what I’m going to talk about. I’ve only been tempted once before to join–last summer when there was a Harry Potter discussion going on.
Anyone want to hear about my sparring equipment?
Yeah, she’s real. I couldn’t have dreamed her up.
Ask her about her sparring equipment, somebody.
She da man!
I thought Stony was the pugilist… I thought he was doin’ one of those Norman Mailer find-his-manhood deals… I am soooo wrong..
By all means, stay around. Fresh blood! New perspectives! Anybody chillin’ with the Jimster has to have interesting comments…
Anyone want to hear about my sparring equipment?
Who knows? Maybe there are other boxers in the closet 'round these parts.
Come and go as you like, KO. You’re most welcome here, and Lord knows playing an instrument is no requirement for Pub participation.
Welcome KOcrane
As well as music amd politics, there are quite a few practitioners of various armed and unarmed combat arts on the board (myself included).
So yes a description of training methods would probably be of some interest

Actually, that’s right. I’m a lapsed karateka, myself. I just can’t stand it when some of such discussions degenerate to the tired old “your kung-fu is not as good as my kung-fu” quibblefests. Bleah.

David
Thanks, Davy. What sort of combat arts do you do?
I do old-fashioned boxing. Not kickboxing. The real thing. I’m not interested in amateur competitions, but I love sparring with a heavyweight. (I’m a lightweight.)
Her trainer, Davy Gamble, is a brain-damaged ex-pro.
Can hardly talk. I quit sparring with him because
he would make me hit him in the head, drop his
guard and if I didn’t hit him with all my might,
he would beat me up. I couldn’t hit this guy in
the head!
But KO, she lives for it. She says after she spars,
‘Do you notice his speech is getting more slurred?’
Shes vicious!
…but I love sparring with a heavyweight. (I’m a lightweight.)
Hardcore. Gotta love that. ![]()
That’s not true. I do not relish in David’s brain damage.
He wears headgear, I wear soft, sparring gloves, and he knows my right hand very well. Well enough that it is actually very hard to land it. Unless I’m going for the gut. He let’s me hit him there all I want. I do try though. And I often spar with other people, fresher, less experienced folks, without brain damage. Actually, my favorite punch is the uppercut. Either right or left. I have a variety of ways of sneaking it in.
Well KOcrane
Being an out of shape fat old git now, it is Wu and Yang style Tai Chi.
Started with Judo, then Wado Ryu Karate, then Aikido, then White Crane Kung Fu, then Shotokan Karate.
David
I actually tried Tai Chi once. I was really bad at it. Still boggles me that I turned out to be good at boxing.
I have definitive proof that KO is real: KO posts in prose, and Jim in free verse.
