Internet etiquette/ Monster caught up in Bruh-hah-hah

I had a major bruh-ha-ha with some people in another forum… I was not super polite in my wrestling with the other board members… I felt that I was being provoked, maybe I am just too easily provoked..

I am sorry that I carried on, combating this guy “bloke” and this other fellow “Arnold” for no real purpose.

I am going to not post over there for a while until I calm down!!

I don’t think the quality of posting on that board is very high, and sometimes it’s really difficult to tell if someone is joking or whether they are serious.. A lot of snide remarks seem to be made.. I am not the perfect citizen over there either, but I don’t think I intentionally provoke people.. Perhaps I RESPOND badly to comments, that may be my bigger problem.

If anyone is really bored you can read the whole exchage here

I am known there as “Super Smooth”,

Maybe it’s just not worth visiting over there!! Another thread I started went sort of badly also http://forums.chisham.com/viewtopic.php?t=14726&start=0

Anyone want to share their own stories?

I left thesession.argh in high dudgeon several years ago after I was comprehensively rounded on by their “glee club” for complaining about the preponderance of silly, flippant thread hijacks going on. Unfortunately, their structure is not one of different forums in which you can discuss music/act silly/attempt to be amusing/get deadly serious, like we can here (more fool them!). They completely whitewashed me from the board, so you can’t read any of the old exchanges (not that I was especially proud of 'em anyway). I still take a peek over there every now and again, and I’ve noticed that hardly any of the clique of the time post at all these days. No names, no pack drill!

Just let things cool down. A good lesson to learn from this is, if someone says something that annoys you, don’t post a response. Trust me, I have been in a similar exchance right here on C&F. It is not easy, but it will keep you out of fights. What I did was let things cool down for a couple of weeks and then came back.

yep, let it cool down..

Yes, it would seem some people on other forums are not that friendly as I’ve discovered (unfortunatley).

You can tell the wind-up is coming when people start saying things like “If you truly listened…” or “If you had really read my previous posts…”
Those little adverbs indicate tempers unravelling.

Not to worry, Monster, there are much worse than that out there. I’ve been drummed off a site because the moderators decided they didn’t like me. No warning, (well, no formal warning: one or two straws in the wind…) just BANG! Gone. People I’ve met from that site, since, fall into two strict categories: “Why on earth are you so cross about it?” and “Bstrds! F*ck Them! Join Our site, we’re MUCH nicer!”

Just Chill, Dude. And remember:

Many a time a man’s mouth broke his nose.

Monster, your thread is a variation of the famous “by ear or by notes” argument you can find right here on our own board in bucketloads.
It also crosses a little into the “thats not how you play that type of music” syndrome.

Just search for “I made a CD” and you’ll see flames Nero would envy.

I saw the Dukes of Dixieland in NO several years ago on a river cruise ( ) Their trombone player was pretty good.

Good advice. This is one of the dangers of semi-anonymous internet communication. Face to face you’d have little visual and auditory clues that would give you a lot more information about that annoying comment which might let you see that it was made in jest. Here, in black and white, you don’t have that and it’s easy to misinterpret things.

Yep, those are some definite clues!

Steve, you didn’t mesh with the glee club?

Exactly correct Flying Cursor, everyone seems to be the"expert"; combine that with a little experience and or knowleged and it’s a highly volatile mixture!

One guy was acting like a moderator on steroids(there are no monitors there) and others were very “expert” and condescending. I am still cooling off, but when I go back I’ll be a little more careful.

Spock, Shields UP!! Begin sensor scan!

Trouble with all these damn boards is that you don’t know who’s where. I know for sure that Jack was over there at the time but because of all these aliases people use, and keep changing, I don’t know how many sessiondotawgers from that unillustrious time are over here. For all I know, Monster, you could be Will Harmon!

Steve, I can’t think of a reply that proves that I’m not Will Harmnon, therefore, maybe I am!

You proved it by misspelling his name. Now don’t go and spoil it by editing your post!

No, he isn’t Will. But I am really Zina Lee.

:astonished: Good grief, I wondered where you’d gone! And all this time I thought you were Debwah! :boggle:

Never mind actually

And I’ve been watching you, Steve…

At times like this one should remember:
Arguing on the Internet is like racing in the Special Olympics. You might win, but you’re still retarded. [insert polticially correct term of choice i.e. disable, differently abled, bla bla bla].

And of course I do it anyway in the rubber room.

:astonished: No…please don’t tell Jeremy I’m here…please…I’ll do almost anything…

“Oh hi, gee, erm, the other night i was like erm at a session and like this guy, was erm noodling in between tunes. I mean like im the session leader and like i said to this guy, do you know who i am? do you know what session ettiquette is all about? gee…”

I am really Unseen122. Seriously
