Boosey and Co. flute

First off, I just love the WFO cds. I always listen to them. I decided to go to their website and look at some of my favorite sounding flutes. Boosey & Co. popped up a couple of times. Are those Pratten style? And does anybody copy their style?

Booseys usually are Prattenish flutes. And if you buy a Pratten, it’s probably either a copy of a Boosey or a copy of a Hudson.

Gabriel, just for clarity for the less experienced flute browser (lecher??? )…, I assume you mean “if you buy a modern “Pratten” style/copy”.
If you buy an original Pratten, it will almost certainly be by Hudson or Boosey. Apart from specifically Pratten pattern flutes (so stamped), both Boosey and Hawkes (while separate firms) made other flutes in rather similar style, though not using the Pratten name.

Yes, of course. I thought that was clear.

Not really, at least to someone of my literal turn of mind! Or, potentially, to a newbie to C19th &/or ITM flutes. To me, if you write, “It’s a Pratten” or “It’s a Rudall”, that means it is a genuine original unless qualified, not an “in the style of” or “copy”, whether modern or period. I am of course aware that many people in ITM circles use the terms loosely when talking about the style of a modern-made flute - number of body parts, tone-hole size and distribution, bore and embouchure etc. - but unless that is made very clear contextually, I find myself baulking at it quite frequently.

Hehe, okay. I play a Pratten, but it’s a modern copy. But for me, it’s still a Pratten.
