Pratten / Boosey on eBay

Here

I am not a Pratten specialist… But it really looks like Molloy’s flute.

Good luck to those who will try to catch it

I think I will have to go to Lambertville and steal it…

This is a lowend boosey pratten flute that was made for export and should not be compared with molly’s flute which is a totally different instrument,
i have had many boosey pratten flutes over the years and can tell the quality
at a glance, they made a cheaper quality flute for export and pond was their
agent these flutes did’nt go over too well in the us and the venture was short lived.

I agree, no one should bid on this…

Hi Jon

What do you mean, do you have one of those?

I just said it looked like Molloy’s… And I’m not fond of Prattens. Sorry if I gave a link for a bad instrument.

Not the way I’d like a crack filled.

Kevin Krell

Me neither… But this can be redone by a good maker: it doesn’t look too bad. This question is of course of little importance if the instrument is just crap. (Sorry again if I gave a bad link  )

Just a question: is it normal for a Pratten to be mounted with german silver?

No, that way I can get it for $200… :stuck_out_tongue:

Shoot! It is already up to $540!

Hey Matt,

Don’t apologize for posting a link to a flute. I learned some important stuff about cracks and their repair, and about export quality flutes vs the real thing. This was helpful in preventing me from making the mistake of bidding for it.

Hugh

I own four original Pratten’s Perfected flutes…
two made by Hudson (the original maker)…
and two by Boosey (early serial numbers)…

and all four are German Silver keys…with exquisite cocus wood.

There are some that were made with sterling keys/rings, but not many.

hope that helps

Helpful, as usual. Thanks David

What are the signs to look for to tell the difference?

the size and placement of the toneholes are not your regular Boosey type
work on their pratten style flutes, on a boosey pratten (not the export models) the F# and G holes are placed close together, also the F# is by far larger than what you see on that ebay flute, there are numerious other differences which takes too much time to explain here,
