BFMS Catoctin Mountain Music and Dance Weekend Oct 25-27th

The Baltimore Folk Music Society sponsors a semi-annual weekend of music and dance at the the Camp Misty Mount in the Catoctin Mountain National Park just west of Thurmont, MD.

It’s a wonderful time to be in the clear mountain air and enjoy music. A time for the whole family or just yourself. I’ll be attending and teaching a beginners whistle class. After 2 years as a beginner, I’ve got being a beginner down enough to show others. Besides, I bribe, er… I mean reward all the students with Free whistles. I’ll also be coordinating the campfire, making sure nobody else but me gets set on fire. I’ll demonstrate the proper way to roast marshmellows. Okay, Okay, I’ll demonstrate it by process of ellimination, after my 4 or 5 marshmellow torchs, everyone will have seen how not to do it and be able how to figure out how to toast those nice squishy golden brown bits of sweatness and fluff. We’ll be singin’, sippin’ hot cider, spinnin’ tall tales.

For contra-dancer this is a great chance to get out with the family and have a good time, dance, teach the kids. The weekend is a grand time with lots of good cheer.

If you have any questions that I might be able to answer, let me know. I’ll be leaving early Friday so you’ll need to get in touch with me sometime today, Thursday.

Come to the Mountains.

Feel the crisp fall air
beacon the tunes
to the hollows and ridges.
The accompaniment of rustling leaves
as the aire shrugs their boughs
whispering of calmness.
Unknotted shoulders
release their care
as a melody,
remembered only as mist and shimmer,
is pursued with breath and fingerflow.
The yet to be found tune
flits from phrase to phrase,
settling the spirit’s confusion,
finding its foundation finally.

Come to the mountains with us and …

Enjoy Your Music,

Lee Marsh
