beginner music recommendations?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I did some searching and couldn’t come up with much.

What are some good beginner books/music for Irish flute? I’m new to the flute as well as Irish music, but I’ve been playing some type of instrument my entire life, so I can pick things up pretty quickly. Basically I’m looking for a solid book of tunes I can work on. Any suggestions?

Grey Larsen’s book might be a good idea. It does have quite a few tunes and CDs so you can listen to recordings of them.

I’m sure others will have additional suggestions.

The Mountain Road - Tunes Popular in South Sligo – it’s a great CD of music, the best by far I’ve ever heard intended for learning tunes – I mean, instead of unlistenable slow stuff, it’s recordings you’d like to listen to just for fun. And there’s a complete tunebook to go with it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was also wondering, is the tin whistle fingered the same? Would it be ok to get some beginner whistle material as well?

Yes.

i also vote for mountain road, great source of good tunes.also check hidden fermanagh, book and two cds, and john skelton’s few tunes and few more tunes books and cds.on skelton cd’s is only flute or whistle without any other instruments, but lovely style, and choice of tunes.
