A dear friend of mine lost his nephew to drugs…one of the songs that he wanted dedicated to his nephew’s memory was (Danny Boy). As a tribute to our friendship and to his nephew I want to play this for him as the anniversary of his loss is coming soon. Since I am a beginner, I have been looking for a “tabbed” version of the song. Is there anyone here who might be able to help? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

The only thing I can suggest is to go to JC Tunefinder and download the sheet music and a copy of the midi file. Key of G.
Then download vanBasco Karaoke Player to play the midi. It will allow you to slow the tempo of the song so that you can learn it at whatever speed feels comfortable. It’s free and works really well.
This is a pretty easy song to learn. In fact, you already know it in your head, so piecing it together with the sheet music and midi will be easy.
The only thing you need to worry about is whether your whistle can hit that high B and hold it. Not too many cheap ones can, in my experience, with the exception of my Sweetone D.

A while back I picked up a little book called “Irish Tin Whistle Pocketbook”. I think it’s from Mel Bay. It was only about a dollar and it has Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) tabbed out. You might want to seek out a local music store for it or you can probably find it on the web somewhere too.
It was actually the first song I learned, you shouldn’t have much trouble with it. It came with my Walton D in their little sheet of songs. Good luck Carrick, nice thought.

I usually order them by the dozen to give away to anyone with a potential to develop WhOA.
Just wail on that high B, and don’t worry about how many neighborhood cats you scare. For me the hardest part about playing that tune on some of my whistles is the pain of that note so close to my ears! I try not to hold onto it very long.
