Bb Burke AlPro is SOLD

For Sale. Burke AlPro Bb whistle. This is the recent design, black-tipped instrument. I own two of these beauties. One is aluminum, the other brass. I can economically justify having only one Burke whistle in this key. My band does not use the key of Bb, often. Mike feels that in my line of work, I should keep both - one as a spare. He is probably correct…

This aluminum Bb is a beautiful example of Mike’s work. It plays superbly in both octaves, and has no playing ‘quirks’ of any kind. It plays like velvet… If it sells, sobeit. If it does not, I will heed Mike’s advice, even though money is tight, right now… I will probably send it back to him to have the headpiece slightly tightened, and then put it in a drawer for use, if needed. The whistle deserves to be actively played. If interested, please e-mail or PM me.

Mike’s current price is $140, plus shipping. My price is $110, including shipping within the continental United States.

A fine snowy day to all.

Byll - Can I get a word from the Burkmeister, please. I have the Burke brass black tip soprano D and C, wide bore, and the Viper, and consider the two D whistles the best of breed. (C is great as well, but not better than a couple of other makes). Several years ago, I sold some aluminum AL-pro lower whistles, either Bflat and A or A and G, because I found them to be fine whistles, but rather ordinary. I notice that you kept the Bflat brass. Are these “middle keys” in black tip new versions as wonderful (IMHO) as the two ends of the spectrum? Thanks.

Hi, Philo: Mike continues to find a way to get the most performance he can out of a brass or aluminum tube. I find the Bb - either metal - to be an exceptionally fine instrument. My Bb is the equal of the Ds I own, and I have not found a better D, anywhere. I use my A and G less often, but I count on them, when needed… I wish I could have justified keeping both of my Bbs. If you have any direct questions, I will be happy to try to answer you…

Best.
