Nicky and I got our first mortgage in 1978 and it was £14,750 over 25 years. By 1986, our move to Cornwall, it had become £40,000. Up to £45,000 in 1990, £55,000 by 1996 and £60,000 by 2000. In 2005 it was £70,000 and still had 10 years to run. Pick da bones outta that lot! Mind you, we now have…equity.
Now here ya go, I’ve found just the right house for you:
It’s in a great location, handy for schools and most important it has plenty of room for you, the wife and kids and all your Chiff and Fipple visitors.
Even I remember well the days when cottages on at least a half acre wouldn’t sell even for 5K. We did the grown up thing, by-passed the bankmanager and put down all the savings when they did start selling and at 10-15 K at that. Never regretted it. A half acre site two miles from where I live is on the market now for 190K. Madness indeed
Havent bought yet, just got the nod of approval from mr bank for whenever in the next year i need it. still settling into new job, tryin to get used to living back in cavan again, will go on the house hunt after christmas.
havent decided whether to build or buy yet??? tough decision, most of my close mates in cavan are builders, roofers, etc. i myself can do all plumbing and wiring, so a few months yet to get the head together!
